Instructor: Gail Schaffler
Skill Level: Beginner

Perfect for sewists new to quilting—or returning after a break—this beginner-friendly course guides you through the basics with patience and care. Learn proper techniques, build good habits, and enjoy creating your first (or next) quilt in a relaxed, supportive environment. Your first class includes a complete course outline, a review of all needed materials, and Gail’s help to choose fabrics, building your confidence while shopping with your exclusive class discount.

Throughout the course, you will learn:

  • Rotary cutting and safe, accurate cutting techniques
  • Block construction and quilt assembly
  • Proper border attachment (no wavy edges!)
  • Binding techniques, including:
  • Navigating quilt corners
  • Joining binding ends
  • Traditional hand-sewn binding
  • Two-color machine-sewn binding

One class is dedicated entirely to binding samples so you can practice and gain confidence before finishing your quilt. In the final class, you’ll trim your quilted project and sew on the binding.

All participants will create a throw-size quilt (approx. 53” x 65”).

Two sessions are offered this winter, both teaching the same quilt.

Some homework is required.

Students should be comfortable using their sewing machine, so they can focus on the fun parts of quilting!

Choose the session that works for you!
